Beginner Bear Making
We will make an 11" bear from high quality synthetic fur, fully jointed,

Heritage Sampler II - Underground Railroad
It is commonly held that plantation slaves used the symbolism of quilt
blocks to silently communicate with each other. This became particularly
important for escaping slaves so they would know when to be prepared to
flee, what direction to take, and where they could safely stop en route.
All the quilt blocks they used are traditional ones in the public domain
and we have collected some of them, researched their importance, and set
our quilt in a unique design of Nancy’s that highlights the importance
of the North Star during a slave’s journey to freedom. The fabrics they
had at their disposal were often scraps from the Mistress’s household,
and for our sample we have used reproductions from the first half of the
19th Century. The entire quilt is a pieced one, using modern methods. We’ll
make 2 blocks per session over 6 sessions. In the 7th session, we will
add sashing and borders.
Please come in and purchase fabrics in advance.

“Strippy” Quilt
Here is another opportunity to learn this quick and elegant quilt.
So-called “Strippy” quilts were a favourite of the quilters mid-19th century
and showcased strips of their best chintz inserted between long narrow
rows of simple pieced blocks. Because they were quick to make, many
more were also sewn up in calicoes during the Civil War. They then had
the unusual name of “Sanitary Quilts” as the women’s groups who made them
went under the umbrella name of “Sanitation Committees”. We will make ours
in heritage fabrics, but you will find the pattern very adaptable to modern
fabrics as well, including Christmas, if you prefer. One day session.
Please select fabrics in advance.
